Best Perth Dog Friendly Walking Trails
The good news is that your dog is very welcome if you join one of these 11-day tours.
National parks are generally not accessible to pets, but outside of Perth there are many hiking trails and walking trails that can be enjoyed by well-trained and well-controlled dogs. Jarrahdale’s 1872 Railway Heritage Trail is one of them. The 10 km walk was long but beautiful. Walk through traditional jarrah and bean plantations. Leave the small parking lot on Nettleton Road and follow the old wooden railway track around Gingagup Creek back to the starting point.
From September to November, follow the wildflowers along the way. Take a leisurely walk along the trail, have a picnic and enjoy the view of the Darling Cliffs.
Grab your pup’s favorite ball and head to the gated zoo on Oakley Road for some no-holds-barred fun. This is the safest place around Carin Marsh where dogs can walk off-leash. If they are not interested in playing with the agility equipment scattered around the space or digging in the sand, there are always other dogs in the garden to keep them entertained.

The Munda Biddi and Bibbulmun Tk trails both pass through Dwellingup, but if you’re looking to hike with your four-legged friends, head to the Chuditch trail. This 7km semi-circular trail follows the Murray River in Lane Pool Reserve, starting at Nanga Mill Campground and ending at Chuditch Campground. tk is wide and has a gentle slope, making it ideal for morning walks.
Fill up all or part of the route and refuel at nearby dog-friendly cafes. Park in the open area and enjoy a burger overlooking the water pump at Waypoints Cafe or homemade pastries under the shade of the vines at Blue Wren Cafe.

There is an unlimited running and dredging area north of the intersection of Shell and Gingin Streets and south of Carl Street Beach. The middle part is also suitable for dogs. However, the clue must always be there.
Most restaurants in town are eager to accommodate their furry visitors. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on short leashes at Endeavor Tavern’s waterfront beer garden, while Offshore Cafe and Wendy’s Cafe offer outdoor dog seating.
After a long coastal walk (front), you and your dog will work up an appetite worthy of a hearty breakfast. The location on the Mindari Pier Boardwalk is dog-friendly, but Union Kitchen is more than that. The cafe has a dog-specific menu, so while you sip your cappuccino, your pals can sip milkshakes, “barks” and munch on sausage, bacon and eggs.
If you want a cool place after breakfast, go to Queen’s Dog Beach which is north of Mindari Beach. This is an off-leash area, so dogs can run freely on the beach or in the ocean. The waves here are thanks to the small fringing reef, making swimming fun even for small dogs or those who are not confident in swimming.

Boarding takes place at the Maylands Boat Ramp, where you will also receive a safety briefing and some driving instructions (no passenger ticket required). Once you know what’s going on, you can decide where to explore, whether it’s the vineyards of the Swan Valley or the picturesque riverside of Guildford. Bring a packed lunch and you can have a picnic anywhere you can park along the river.

Four-wheel drive dog owners should pack their cars and set their GPS to Preston Beach, south of Mandurah. It’s a laid-back seaside town where fishing, swimming and beach driving are a regular occurrence.
Flatten your tires, drive onto the sand from the parking lot of Preston Beach, and keep driving until you find a quiet spot to stop and send your call. Puppies can run free on the beach and grab some food to cook when you return to town. There is an electric barbecue and a playground not far from the parking lot, making it the perfect place for the whole family to enjoy a fresh dinner of the day.
The headwaters of Bells Rapids are not far from the confluence of the Swan and Avon rivers. In winter, the currents are at their strongest and the scenery is spectacular as you picnic under the shade of the park’s trees.
Dog Friendly Western Australia: Travelling Wa With A Dog
Before you sit down, take your dog for a walk on the other side of the bridge. You can choose one of two routes: the 2.5km Bells Rapids on the left and the more difficult 3km Goat on the right. If you or your dog are feeling particularly energetic, combine them to complete the cycle. If you are looking for a calmer part of the river, enter the river with your partner and enjoy the view of the forest.
Change up your walking routine and head to the local community of Ranford Pool Walk Trail in Boddington, 1 hour and 30 minutes south-east of Perth. This easy 4km route follows the River Hotham from Lions Weir car park to Randford Pool (Darnminning), a peaceful spot for a picnic and a quick dip.
On the way to the pool, you will pass traditional paper bark forests and beautifully landscaped country paddocks with herds of grazing horses. Once there, explore the shallows of the pool with your pup, then fire up the electric grill in the rotunda and enjoy a sausage sizzle lunch. There are also public toilets nearby if needed.
Sit down and enjoy a coffee or beer at one of South Fremantle’s pet-friendly spots before the salty season hits. The historic Ootong and Lincoln restaurants are a short walk from South Fremantle Dog Beach, as are the welcoming venues of South Beach Cafe and Running With Thieves.

After refueling, we headed to the beach between Douro Road and the Fremantle Sailing Club. If you like SUP and your dog is willing to join the board, you can paddle together in calm water. Test your pup’s mettle on the obstacle course at Whiteman Dog Park. Several tunnels and bridges surround the fully enclosed dog park near parking lot 23 (east of the fishpond) allowing your pup to show off his ability to hop, jump and weave right away. Each obstacle has a blue or yellow color to help you pass it. These are colors that dogs can easily identify using their dichromatic vision.
If you’re not interested in trying out the tools, there’s still plenty to explore in the 2.5-hectare park. Sit on a chair in the shade and smell, or walk along the 500 meter path. We are also more than welcome to wander the rest of Whiteman Park with you, as long as you keep up to date.
